Natural Bubbling Hot Spring: Thermal water bubbles up at the edge of the river just south of Caddo Gap. You’ll feel the cool water suddenly turn warm when you have found the spot. Depending on the river level, you may see the warm water spilling into the river at the bank, or just feel it mixing into the river below your feet. The spring itself isn’t very impressive,
but it is still cool… I mean warm!

Park at the public parking off Hwy 8 just north of the Hwy 240 intersection and across the river from Arrowhead Campground. Avoid parking in the way of the kayak shuttles or they may tow you. Enter the river and cross over to the west bank. Follow the bank about 200-300’ upstream until you feel the warm water with your toes (if the river is high), or you might see it spilling from the edge of the bank if the river is low.

Swinging Footbridge: If you love bridges, don’t pass up the chance to see this 60 year-old derelict suspension bridge. I wish I had been able to see it when it was built back in 1968 (I think).
Take Manfred Rd. west out of downtown Caddo Gap. Look for the public access point 1/4 mile before the low-water bridge over the Caddo. You can see the swinging bridge from your car at the low water bridge (look upstream) or walk to the bridge from the access point. But I definitely don’t recommend trying to walk across it!!! https://maps.app.goo.gl/qQD9VjT3qJCAZszj8

Historic Caddo Gap: This cute little town has some historic houses and businesses.
Read about the history of the town and the original inhabitants – the Caddo Indians.
Cool off at the Historic Gap Mercantile. Guests from Thunder Mountain Cabin can get free drinks! https://maps.app.goo.gl/q4epcnTGRYBbgwQi6

Recommended Churches
Although your preference might be different, we like two options:
First Baptist Glenwood – 15 minutes – take Thunder Mountain Rd. to Glenwood – This is the largest church in the area and always welcoming to strangers! Jeans and T-shirt are fine! 10:15am service.
Oak Grove Church – 5 minutes – This very small local church just down the road from the cabin is full of kind locals who will try to talk you into moving to the area! Jeans and a T-shirt might be over-dressed but are perfect! 10:30am service (although most people show up early).
